Information about Identity Theft.

At River Community Bank, N.A., we are committed to protecting your confidential information. We also want to give you the necessary information to help you decrease the risk of falling victim to identity theft. This will ensure you enjoy a safe relationship with River Community and allow us to continue our dedication to you as a valued client.

Tips to Protect Yourself

  • Be cautious when providing personal information over the internet, on the phone, or in person.
  • Do not respond to unsolicited emails asking you to verify personal financial information. This latest high-tech scam (called “Phishing”) uses email to deceive consumers into disclosing their sensitive financial information. Often these emails may represent they are coming from your Bank or an official agency such as the FDIC. If you receive this type of email, contact the company via telephone to determine its validity.
  • Notify River Community immediately to report any suspicious activity on your Bank account or to report lost checks or debit cards.
  • If you are not able to secure your mailbox, have your check reorder delivered to your Banking Center for safekeeping until you can pick them up.
  • Never give out your PIN (Personal Identification Number) or passwords and do not keep them in an easily visible place.
  • Protect your Social Security Number and leave your Social Security card in a secure place. Do not carry it in your wallet.
  • Shred any unnecessary documents, especially if they contain any personal financial information. This includes credit card solicitations which are popular items for theft from trash cans.
  • Promptly retrieve your incoming mail and do not put outgoing mail in your unsecured residential mailbox. A locked mailbox of use of a post office box is highly recommended if you are unable to retrieve your mail on a timely basis.
  • Analyze your monthly bills and financial statements for any suspicious activity and charges that are not familiar to you, especially foreign charges.
  • Be conscious of your billing cycles. If they unexpectedly change, notify the company immediately. For example, know when your credit card statements normally arrive and call your credit card company if they do not arrive when expected.
  • Evaluate your credit report annually. For a small fee, you may obtain a copy of this report at any time. This will help you identify any mistakes or fraud.
  • Regularly update the virus protection software on your computer. Computer viruses have the potential to cause your computer to send out files or other stored information including your social security number, addresses and at times, facsimiles of your signature.
