Piedmont Arts Presents 2013 Clyde Hooker Award to River Community Bank, N.A.

River Community Bank. Our Community. Your Bank.Jean Vanier, writes in her book Community and Growth, "Many people are good at talking about what they are doing, but in fact do little. Others do a lot but don't talk about it; they are the ones who make a community live." Today we honor a business that truly embodies this sense of community. They quietly go about their business, supporting the community monetarily, but also encouraging employees to get involved in various nonprofits and activities.

River Community Bank was established in 1999 by local citizens, making it truly a hometown banking institution. The list of organizations they support is a long one and includes: Grace Network, United Way, Relay for Life, American Red Cross, SPCA, Patrick Henry Community College Foundation, Citizens Against Family Violence, Scouting, 4-H, and Boys and Girls Club. But River Community Bank has also shown a great commitment to arts and culture, recognizing that the arts create a more vibrant community. They provide support to TheatreWorks, Fayette Street Historical Society, Reynolds Homestead, The Crooked Road, Virginia Museum of Natural History and of course, Piedmont Arts.

During the past year, River Community Bank has provided significant support as a Corporate Partner for the Arts, and was a major funder of the We Are The Ship exhibit. The bank underwrote all the costs associated with our Game Day event. Not only did they provide monetary support, but several employees came out and worked the event.

River Community Bank embodies the spirit of the Clyde Hooker Award and its namesake, which is a true commitment to community and the arts. At this time, I would like to ask representatives of River Community Bank to come up and accept this award with our appreciation!
